Cebu City’s dengue cases decrease

CEBU, Philippines - Dengue cases in Cebu City is much lesser during the first four month of this year as  compared to the same period of last year.

City Health Officer Stella Ygoña said there were only 736 dengue cases recorded from January to April 30 as compared to the 962 cases in the same period last year.

There are two deaths recorded this year and Assistant City Epidemiologist Durinda Macasocol said the casualties were from Barangays Basak-Pardo and Kalunasan.

Macasocol said the big barangays like Talamban, Guadalupe, Lahug and Banilad are among the barangays that have the highest number of dengue cases.

Two months ago, Talamban was on the top of the list of barangays with the highest number of dengue cases.

Ygoña is aksing the public to keep their surroundings clean and get rid of stagnant water, the breeding places of mosquitoes.

Councilor Jose Daluz III earlier proposed an ordinance that would compel the heads of families and company managers to clean their respective surroundings and destroy breeding sites of mosquitoes.

There were 13 dengue-related deaths in Cebu City last year while over 3,000 victims, mostly children landed in the hospitals. — (FREEMAN)
