Anad rep's vehicle set on fire

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A vehicle of Rep. Pastor "Jun" Alcover was gutted by fire Monday night in Barangay Loong, Tabogon town in northern Cebu.

It was a reassembled Nissan Jeep, making it a Hummer look-alike. It was targeted by his detractors' black propaganda during the last election period who accused him of owning such a luxurious vehicle.

The real US Hummer is reportedly worth P5 million but Alcover said he bought the vehicle in Cavite in 1998 in the amount of P150,000.

"Ginoo ra mag-igo sa mga demonyo nga naghimo ani," Alcover said.

According to Wikipedia, Hummer was a brand of trucks and SUVs first marketed in 1992 when AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 Humvee.

Initial finding of the Tabogon Police revealed that kerosene gas was poured to burn the vehicle.

Alcover's son, Lemar, ran in the last May 13 elections for mayor in Tabogon under One Cebu Party but lost.

Anad Partylist is also facing disqualification in the last elections when Commission on Elections Chairman Sixto Brilliantes announced five days before the election day the disqualification of 12 party-list groups.

But Anad insisted it is not disqualified, citing Article VI Section 17 of the Philippine Constitution which states, "The Senate and House of Representatives shall each have an Electoral Tribunal which shall be the sole judge of all contest relating to the election, returns and qualifications of their respective members."

Anad is the only party-list in the country actively advocating for the promotion of genuine democracy and exposing the evils of communism.

As of yesterday afternoon, Anad placed number 44 with 199,400 votes in the ongoing canvassing of the Party-list at the Comelec in Manila.

Alcover said that Anad is already assured of one seat in the House of Representatives for 2013 to 2016 term. — (FREEMAN)
