CEBU, Philippines - Six people were injured in a vehicular accident involving a motorcycle and a tricycle on the national highway of Sitio Poo, Barangay Balud, Dalaguete past 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

Injured was Marlon Nieves, 34, of Barangay Nug-as, Alcoy and his back rider Mary Bejec, 33, of Barangay Langkas, Dalaguete. They were on board Honda XRM 125 bearing plate number 7556KQ.

Also hurt were Augustine Kiamco, 58, of Barangay Balud, his live-in partner, Catalina Limbaga and his passengers, Jenelyn Balansag, 25, of Barangay Lahug, Cebu City as well as Stephanie Romeo, 20, of Barangay Consolacion, Dalaguete.

The victims were taken to the Cardinal Rosales Memorial Hospital but of the six, Nieves, Bejec, Kiamco and Balansag were referred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.

Balansag and Romeo were treated as outpatients.

SPO1 Veronico Sentino, desk officer, said the motorcycle was south bound and upon reaching a slight curve, Nieves reportedly lost control of the motorcycle which then encroached on the opposite lane.

This was when it hit the tricycle with plate number 7158IS. Kiamco did not immediately notice the motorcycle which caused the accident.

Police could not yet determine if Nieves was under the influence of liquor at that time. Nieves and Bejec were also not wearing helmets during the incident.

The two vehicles are now in the custody of the Dalaguete police station.

Police are now waiting for the victims to appear at the police station for the filing of appropriate charges against Nieves. – (FREEMAN)
