Fire razes apartment in Tisa

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - An early morning fire that was traced to electrical problems damaged a two-door apartment in Barangay Tisa yesterday.

The fire, which was reported at 1:34 am, razed half of the apartment, an office, and a car, with an estimated amount of damage reaching up to P200,000.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Lowel Opolentisima said the fire lasted for 12 minutes and was raised to second alarm. It started at the office of Wilma Carredo.

Carredo and her family are renting the apartment owned by Vicente Pagador.

“Gi-imbestigar pa nato kung unsay hinungdan sa sunog pero traceable gyud sa kuryente ang posibleng hinungdan ato (We are still investigating the cause but it is possible that electric connections have caused it),” said Opolentisima.

The fire investigator said they had a hard time accessing the area because aside from the narrow road leading to it, the burning structure was located at a dead end.

The firemen have to connect few hoses together to reach the area.

The fire razed the first two-storey door Carredo was occupying, her accounting office, and her Tamaraw Ford Fiera parked just outside the apartment.  (FREEMAN)
