CH to resume clearing of remaining 8 stalls in Taboan market next week
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City government’s demolition team is scheduled to proceed with the clearing operation in Taboan Public Market after stall holders failed to secure a temporary restraining order from the court.
Market administrator Raquel Arce said that the Regional Trial Court has denied the petition for TRO filed by the vendors occupying the remaining eight stalls.
“Karon nga gisalikway na sa korte ang gipangayo nila nga Temporary Restraining Order amo na g’yud nga idayon ang pagguba sa mao nga mga modules. (Now that the court has denied their application for TRO, we will already continue with the demolition of the modules),†Arce said.
Arce said that stall holders Marites Mercado and Barangay Captain Abraham Desamparado and his wife Mely of San Nicolas-Proper earlier sought the court’s intervention to stop the demolition.
According to Arce, Mercado is maintaining three market modules while the Desamparados have five but listed under different names.
“Kon tan-awon nimo ang papeles lainlain og tag-iya apan sa actual nga sitwasyon klaro kaayo nga usa ra ang tag-iya kay gikuha ang partition sa mga tindahan aron mahimong usa ra og usa ra ‘sab ka cashier (If you look at the papers there are several holders but actually it is only occupied by one person),†Arce told The Freeman.
The eight modules are affected by the renovation of the Taboan Public Market. Occupants of the stalls refused to vacate the area.
The newly-renovated public market was inaugurated last Friday. Arce said that the entire ground floor of the market is now fully occupied by vendors unlike before that the stalls were just used as beds of homeless persons. (FREEMAN)
