Vendors get no assurance from Rama

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama could not make an assurance that all vendors displaced from the wet market near Aderan Hotel will be accommodated in the newly built public market in Barangay Lahug.

Several vendors have complained that they were not given a space in the new market located about 50 meters away from where they used to be situated.

â€œWala g’yud ta’y mahimo kon dili na sila masulod sa bag-ong merkado. Sagdi lang kay kinahanglan g’yud na nga lingkoran,” the mayor said.

The new market building situated along the road going to Barangay Busay was constructed on the province-owned lot through the efforts of the mayor and the barangay officials of Lahug.

Fish and meat vendors that used to occupy the road going to Sitio Son-oc, near Aderan Hotel, were assigned at the ground floor. However not all of them were given a space because other spaces were assigned to vegetable vendors.

Fruit vendors and those selling other items were assigned at the second and third floor of the building.

City Hall personnel are already clearing the road near the hotel from illegal structures.  (FREEMAN)
