2 die in separate road accidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two people died in separate vehicular accidents in Liloan and in the City of Naga last Wednesday.

Emiliano Cortes, Sr., 80, of sitio Pilapilan, Barangay Yati, Liloan died at the Chong Hua Hospital few hours after he was hit by a motorcycle while crossing at the national highway at 6:50 pm.

Cortes was first rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but was later transferred to Chong Hua Hospital where he expired.

Initial investigation conducted by SPO1 Claudio Castro revealed that Cortes suddenly crossed the highway without looking at the approaching motorcycle  driven by Jason Batad, 26, resident of Mandaue City.

Batad is now detained at the town’s police station and is set to be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

In another incident, Elena Pogoy, of Barangay Langtad, Naga City died a few hours after having hit by a Suzuki multicab while crossing the national road in Barangay Colon at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Pogoy was taken to Minglanilla District Hospital and was later referred to VSMMC where she was declared dead.

Police investigation shows that the multicab driven by Pedelito Amuelin, 35, of Barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City was traveling towards Cebu City when the victim suddenly crossed the highway.

Amuelin is now detained at the police station pending the filing of the case. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
