Pathways mulled for coastal barangays
CEBU, Philippines - A week before local campaign kicks off, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama introduced yet another project, a spinoff from his “Let There Be Light†electrification project.
“We will construct concrete pathways at the coastal communities. I noticed that they have a hard time crossing from their homes to the main road. We will call the project ‘Let There Be a Pathway’,†Rama told reporters.
The mayor specifically pointed to the settlers from Duljo Fatima going towards Mambaling and Cogon coastal areas as the most needy.
Of the 16 coastal barangays, Ermita, Pasil and Suba are among those identified by the mayor as those already enjoying coastal paths to their households.
He added that the planned concrete road project will be one way, just enough for small vehicles to pass.
“Igo lang gud makasud ang motorsiklo ug multicab,†the mayor explained.
While this does not permanently address the concerns of these communities, he emphasized the importance of accessibility.
“Yes, this is a temporary measure but this has to be constructed for access of these people,†Rama said.
This, plus the electrification project will surely be a big help to Cebu City coastal communities, especially the children and the old.
“Kung hayag na inyong lugar, dili na ka maglaag pa sa laing lugar diba?,†he added. (FREEMAN)
