Mar. 28 and 29 regular holidays

CEBU, Philippines -  Private employees and employers alike are reminded by the government to heed the pay rules as the country observes Holy Week.

In a statement posted over the Official Gazette of the Philippines, Secretary of Labor and Employment Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz reiterated the mandated computation in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 459 and its implementing guidelines stated in Labor Advisory No. 06 series of 2012.

Maundy Thursday (March 28) and Good Friday (March 29) are both regular holidays.

Employees who do not work on these days are still entitled to receive 100 percent salary for the day while a double pay awaits those who will work on both days.

On top of this, taking overtime gives an employee an additional 30 percent of hourly rate.

Those on a day off but will opt to report for duty will receive an additional 30 percent of daily rate of 200 percent.

Adding an overtime to a working rest day entitles an employee for another 30 percent of hourly rate.

Meanwhile, Black Saturday (March 30), a special non-working holiday, is considered a "no work, no pay" unless there is an agreed internal arrangement.

Working on this day will give the employee an additional 30 percent of the daily rate while those who will render an overtime get 30 percent more from hourly rate.

If it falls on an employee's rest day and he/she decides to work, an additional 50 percent of daily rate and an overtime rendered will mean 30 percent more of the hourly rate.

DOLE emphasized that on top of the daily/hourly rate, cost of living allowance is added to the computation.

The agency is also urging the public to report to the nearest DOLE office any violations that an employer commits.   (FREEMAN)
