UV marks Inday Pining’s birthday

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Today is the 108th birth anniversary of Lady Josefina Rivera Gullas.

Lovingly called Inday Pining, the Gullas matriarch is the woman behind the University of the Visayas and was the inspiration of The Freeman Chairman Jose “Dodong” R. Gullas in the revival of the UV Chorale and the establishment of the JRG Halad Museum.

“It was Mama Pining who first organized the UV Choir. I hope she is happy that I revived the group and that the UV Chorale has achieved international fame,” Gullas said.

Dodong and his siblings, Cebu First District Representative Eduardo “Eddie” R. Gullas and Gliceria “Inday Sering” Gullas Lucero, have made their respective marks in the Cebuano community. While Dodong has The Freeman and the JRG Halad Museum, as well as his involvement in Church activities and projects, Congressman Eddie is a prominent figure in politics and is also the President of the University of the Visayas while Inday Sering is the Senior Comptroller at the university.

To celebrate Inday Pining’s birthday, there will be a Holy Mass at the UV Gym at 9 am today to be celebrated by Monsignor Jose Tajanlangit. The Mass will also serve as the venue for the First Holy Communion of the graders from the university. There will also be a Holy Mass at 5:30pm at Cempark for the Gullas family, to be celebrated by Monsignor Boy Alesna. (FREEMAN)
