Trillanes okay with performing dynasties

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Reelectionist Senator Antonio Trillanes said that it is up to the people to choose who can best lead them regardless of the candidate’s family name.

Trillanes, who will be in Cebu for the next three days as part of his campaign tour, said that there is nothing wrong with candidates with familiar or popular names elected into office.

“But if the ‘political dynasties’ elected into office have no performance or accomplishments to speak of, then those who elected that candidate has to live with that for the next three or six years,” said Trillanes in a press conference yesterday.

Together with Trillanes in his campaign sorties is the Magdalo-Cebu.

Ashley Acedillo, second nominee of the Magdalo Partylist, said that they have around 200,000 members nationwide who are now campaigning for the senator to win another seat at the Senate.

Trillanes, who admitted that he is still clueless on how he won the 2007 senatorial election as he was behind bars at the time, said that this time he is free to campaign, he is just enjoying the experience and working hard to have another victory.

Trillanes got 11 million votes but believed he is cheated by over 1.5 million votes in that election.

In his six-year as senator, Trillanes said he has poured in Cebu several infrastructure projects, financial assistance for various hospitals and scholarship fund for some state universities here.

In his four-day campaign tour here, Trillanes considered Cebu as very important because it has over 2.5 million registered voters. —/JPM (FREEMAN)
