3 men nabbed in Bulacao for robbery

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested three allegedly noted robbers who shot at barangay tanods who pursued them in Barangay Bulacao on Monday night.

Suspects Fredrick Sabroso, 32, Adrian Llamedo alias Popoy, 30, and a 17-year-old cohort were arrested in a hot pursuit operation conducted by Pardo Police on Tuesday night.

Investigation showed that the suspects robbed three high school students from Mambaling Night High School of their cellular phones, cash, and silver necklace at 9 pm last Monday.

The victims, two of them female minors, went to the barangay hall in Bulacao and reported the robbery to the barangay tanods.

The tanods, led by Warren Naquiao, acted on the report and chased after the three robbers.

When the tanods were nearing the suspects, the latter shot them. They missed, and so they threw stones at them. Luckily, the tanod and the victims, who were behind the tanods, were not hurt.

The following day, Pardo Police received information that the same group of suspects were seen gathering again in sitio Cabancalan, Barangay Bulacao, apparently about to strike another robbery, which prompted them to conduct a hot pursuit together with the victims.

After a brief chase, police were able to arrest the suspects. The students pointed at the suspects as the ones who robbed them on Monday night.

Police recovered the suspects’ unlicensed firearms, a caliber .38 revolver with four bullets from Llamedo and a caliber .357 revolver with three bullets from Sabroso.

SPO1 Joel Lacson of Pardo Police said they had been monitoring the suspects after receiving information that they were behind some of the robbery incidents in Barangay Bulacao and even in the nearby Tali-say City.

Llamedo admitted to robbing the students but refrained from speaking when sought for their reaction regarding their alleged involvement in the robbery incidents in the area.

Charges for robbery, illegal possession of firearms and violation of the Comelec gun ban will be filed against the suspects. — (FREEMAN)
