CEBU, Philippines - A case for attempted rape was filed against a motorcycle-for-hire driver for allegedly trying to take advantage of a 22-year-old English tourist last Wednesday around 5:45 a.m. in Barangay Malabago, Badian town.
The case was filed at the Regional Trial Court Branch 60 in Barili town against Louie Pocong, 20, and a resident of Sitio Pooc, Barangay Poblacion, Moalboal town.
Pocong allegedly tried to rape his passenger Jaime Karsan, of Epsom, England, temporarily residing in Palazzo Pensionne, Sepulveda St., Barangay Zapatera, Cebu City, an avid scuba diver. Karsan was saved by a fisherman, John Malala, who happened to pass by the area.
Earlier around 5:30 a.m. Karsan reportedly got on the Honda motorcycle with license plate numbers MC 8987 YZ driven by Pocong and asked to be taken to Barangay Bato, Oslob town,
Badian police chief Insp. Reyco Romaguera said upon reaching Barangay Malabago, Pocong allegedly stopped the motorcycle to relieve himself at a bushy area. But upon his return, Pocong suddenly held Karsan’s arm and forcibly dragged her towards the bushy area.
Karsan fought back which led to a scuffle. She shouted for help upon seeing Malala pass by the area. Pocong decided to escape and sped away.
Malala sought the assistance of barangay captain Servillano Saldua who then called the police. Policemen arrested Pocong in his house six hours later. (FREEMAN)
