Dump truck falls off Marcelo Fernan Bridge
CEBU, Philippines - A dump truck loaded with limestone falls off the railings of the Mandaue City side of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge while travelling back to Lapu-Lapu City last night.
Umapad, Mandaue City Barangay Captain Nelson Rubio said the dump truck, bearing plate number ZDS-410, was fully loaded with limestone and was on its last delivery to Lapu-Lapu City from barangay Talamban in Cebu City when the incident happened.
The driver, identified as Fidel Lopez of Barangay Looc, lost control of the steering wheels when its cross bearings cracked, causing it to fall from the bridge and land in front of Mandaue City's Livelihood Center.
"Samtang nagbyahe sa Fernan bridge kalit lang daw naputol ang cross bearing sa sakyanan busa niatras ang driver apan naglisud na ug manuever ug ang sampot niini padun na sa railings puwerting. Gubaa sa railings dayon nahurot kahagbong ang anapog sa dalan usa pa nahagbong ang dumptruck apan nagbarug gihapon," Rubio said.
The driver, who was seriously wounded, was immediately brought by ERUF paramedics to the Mandaue City Hospital.
It was learned that the owner of the dump truck was Barangay Captain Remegio Oyao of Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.
Oyao rushed to the scene after learning of the incident.
The vehicle was reportedly traveling back to Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City when the incident occurred. – (FREEMAN)
