Man shot dead in Medellin

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 50-year-old man was shot dead by a still unidentified assailant while sleeping inside his house in Sitio Grahe, Barangay Antipolo, Medellin around 7:00 in the evening last Tuesday.

Nicholas Son succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in the head. His body was discovered by his wife, Arceli Son, when she arrived from work at around 9:30

in the evening.

Police are investigating reports that Son allegedly killed somebody by poisoning. This is one of the motives that the police are looking into.

Chief Insp. Laurel Almirante, Medellin police chief, said that the assailant could be a relative of someone who was allegedly killed by Son.

“Dili man gud ta ingon nga mutuo ra dayon ana pero mao may istorya ngadto nga noted siya nga manghiloay,” Almirante said in a phone interview. (It’s not that we immediately believe the talks, but this is the report that we got.)

Prior to the incident, Son was reportedly last seen having a drinking session inside his house together with a certain Boning and Al-Al. Later in the afternoon, Boning and Al-Al were seen leaving the area.

Almirante said neighbors of Son heard a single burst of gunfire coming from

the house around 7:00p.m.

No evidence was recovered from the scene.

Almirante further said Son did not have any derogatory record but they are investigating the “poisoning” claims of his neighbors.

“Diha may namatay before gud unya ang napasanginlan nga siya kuno ang naghilo,” he said. (Somebody died in that area and he was blamed as responsible.)

Police are now checking the families of the victims of the alleged poisoning for further investigation. — (FREEMAN)
