CEBU, Philippines - The official custodian of the pilgrim image of San Pedro Calungsod has expressed optimism that the “Duaw Nasud” activity will be continued.

Fr. Charles Jayme, who is also the head of the Duaw Nasud activity, said that Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma asked for a descriptive plan, updates and strategies of the activity.

Palma who heads the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will present the plan before the other members of the conference during their meeting in Manila.

“I am optimistic nga madayon gyud ni ang pagpadayon sa Duaw Nasud anytime within the year kay daghan man pod ang nisuporta niining atong kalihukan for San Pedro Calungsod (I am optimistic that the Duaw Nasud will continue within the year because there are a lot of people supporting our activity for San Pedro Calungsod),” Jayme told The FREEMAN.

Palma presented the general plan for the continuation of the Duaw Nasud during the 106th Plenary Assembly of the CBCP at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila.

“Nag-meeting pa sila ron (yesterday) sa CBCP, gipresent pa ang update sa atong Duaw Nasud, the descriptive plans and strategies as well. Magdepende gyud ni ang tanan, sa approval sa CBCP,” said Jayme.

Jayme said that the objectives of continuing the Duaw Nasud activity is to integrate the image of St. Pedro Calungsod to the entire nation, at the same time propagate more the devotion to San Pedro Calungsod among the Filipino Catholics.

“Aside from the integration and propagation of the devotion to San Pedro Calungsod, the activity also aims to share with the whole nation, the honor and joy of having another Filipino whose name is being inscribed by the Universal Church in the catalogue of saints,” Jayme added.

There are 16 archdioceses, 57 dioceses, six prelatures, six apostolic vicariates and one military ordinariate in the entire country.

Jayme said that they were only able to cater six archdioceses, 29 dioceses, and one military ordinariate all over the country during the Duaw Nasud activity after the canonization of San Pedro Calungsod in October 21 last year and prior to the National Thanksgiving Mass last November 30.

Among the archdioceses that the image had visited so far, are the archdioceses of Manila, Cagayan, Ozamis, Jaro in Iloilo, Palo in Leyte and Cebu. They were also able to visit the military ordinariate, which is in Camp Crame and Villamor Airbase.

The continuation of the Duaw Nasud would give the other archdiocese and diocese the opportunity to be visited by the pilgrim image of the new Filipino saint. (FREEMAN)
