Scorer hacks fingers of basketball player

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines -  The scorer of a basketball game hacked off the fingers of a player who accused the referee of favoring one of the playing teams during a game in Barangay Mabolo, last Thursday night.

Arnel Migullas, 30, was able to escape after hacking off the fingers of the right hand of Jamil Dantes, 22.

Investigation showed that the victim was playing basketball along Borgonia St. at 8 p.m. together with his cousin Hanzel Judilla and other friends when Judilla complained to the referee, Simpson Agoot II, 40, that he was favoring the other team.

Agoot got irked and punched Judilla which led to a scuffle.

Dantes came to his cousin’s rescue but Migullas approached armed with a bolo.  Dantes tried to run away but Agoot grabbed his legs.

The victim stumbled to the ground while Migullas hacked him in the left shoulder, left elbow and right hand, severing his fingers there.

The victim managed to stand up and run to safety as others scampered away.

The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center while responding policemen from the Mobile Patrol Group were able to arrest Agoot.

Migullas was able to escape.

Police recovered the bolo and a kitchen knife from the crime scene.

PO3 Lou Pagara of the Homicide Section said they are now looking for Migullas.  The alleged assailant who works as a stay-in house helper, was not found at his employer’s house.

Charges for frustrated homicide will be filed against the suspects, police said.  The victim is now recuperating in the hospital.   (FREEMAN)
