Police looking into allegations of foul play Inmate commits suicide inside Mandaue City Jail

Flor Z. Perolina - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - An inmate of the Mandaue City Jail committed suicide by hanging himself using a shoelace tied to his neck while other end was tied to the metal bar of his bunk.

The lifeless body of Jimmy Guido, 49, of Sitio Sta.Cruz in barangay Labogon, was discovered by a fellow inmate at around 6:45 AM yesterday.

He has been detained at the city jail for the past three years for violations of sections 5, 11 and 12 of R.A 9165.

His case is still pending for resolution before RTC Branch 55.

Police investigation revealed that upon discovery, half of Guido’s body was still in his bed.

Roving jail guards did not immediately notice that he committed suicide because he covered his bunk with a curtain.

Fellow inmates said that he was still seen eating breakfast at past 5 am yesterday before he was found dead in his bunk.

Fellow inmates said that Guido possibly committed suicide due to family problems or because he is suffering from diabetes.

JO1 Ryan Padigos rushed Guido to the Mandaue City Hospital but was declared dead by the attending physician.

Insp. Ramil Morpos, deputy chief of Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) in Mandaue City said that Guido’s relatives reported the incident and suspected that there was foul play.

Morpos said Guido’s remains will be submitted for autopsy to determine the existence of foul play.

Police are coordinating with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Mandaue City to look into the allegations of foul play.— (FREEMAN)
