Injuries in CV up this year
CEBU, Philippines - The number of injured people in Central Visayas during the holiday season from December 23 to January 2 increased despite the intensified campaign of the Department of Health (DOH), although a lower number was reported in Mandaue and Talisay cities.
Only 64 persons were injured in the same period last year while there were 76 this year. Incidents on stray bullets, however, were lower with eight last year and two this year.
“Naa tay slight increase karon unya nine kabuok ani ron kay amputated na last time upat ra man,” said Dra. Lakshmi Legaspi, Director III of the DOH. (There were nine amputations this year compared to last year’s four.)
She said those injured were children and adults who were under the influence of liquor.
Legaspi admitted they have yet to convince people not to use firecrackers during the celebration of Christmas and New Year which is part of tradition.
In another development, Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador and new Cebu City Police Office Director Mariano Natu-el Jr. said it was a peaceful holidays. —/JPM (FREEMAN)
