Over P80T cash and items stolen from VCMC

CEBU, Philippines - A burglar was able to steal P50,000 in cash and P33,000 worth of items from the Visayas Community Medical Center along Osmeña Boulevard, Barangay Sta. Cruz, last Sunday afternoon.

Reverend Mequias Camba Jr., a pastor and Chief Executive Officer of VCMC reported to the police that they lost P50,000 cash, a laptop worth P28,000 and a subwoofer worth P5,000.

Camba, 63, said he went inside the administration office at past 1 p.m. last Sunday only to find the donation box had been destroyed and the office laptop missing.

Ocular investigation showed that the unidentified burglar was able to get inside the said office after destroying the exhaust fan of the comfort room.

Camba said the P50,000 came from donations from different churches and other organizations.  It was meant for the ongoing construction of the new building just near the hospital.

He said VCMC has several security cameras but the burglary was not captured on video. There are over 400 employees currently employed at VCMC, he added.

Investigators of the Scene of the Crime Operations arrived and lifted latent fingerprints from the crime scene.

At least 10 employees from the hospital, including some maintenance personnel, were invited to the Cebu City Police Office headquarters to have their fingerprints taken.

Police will match the prints with those lifted from the crime scene.— BRP (FREEMAN)
