Stabbing, shooting incidents mar weekend

CEBU, Philippines - A man who was allegedly suffering from a nervous breakdown stabbed his wife and then himself at their house yesterday morning in Barangay Usmad, nine kilometers from Argao town proper.

Suspect Leonito Amarillo, 43, and victim Clemencia Amarillo, 45, who works as a public teacher, are now currently being treated at different hospitals.

Leonito and Clemencia’s younger sister reportedly had a verbal tussle which prompted Clemencia to intervene and pacify.

More irked, Leonito took a pair of scissors and stabbed Clemencia on the right side of her chest before he stabbed himself in the stomach.

Clemencia was taken to the Badian District Hospital and was transferred to the South General Hospital while Leonito was transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center here in Cebu City.

The couple is now in stable condition, Argao Police chief Alejandro Batobalonos said. He said they had to place the couple in different hospital considering Leonito’s behavioral problems.

Batobalonos said that upon responding, the suspect was at the house with the scissors still in his stomach.

“Niingon pa gani nga ‘iduot ninyo og maayo para mamatay na ko,” the police chief narrated. They removed the pair of scissors and took him to the hospital (He told us to stab him some more so he will die.)

Batobalonos said they have yet to get the statement of Clemencia’s sister who was still shocked on the incident.

The suspect, Batobalonos added, allegedly had a nervous breakdown and had drinking problems. The suspect has not also eaten for the past three days.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the same town, a 64-year-old man surrendered to authorities Saturday morning and confessed to killing Adeliza Rabaño, 65, who was killed and thrown down a cliff in the mountain barangay of Butong last Thursday.

Cresenciano Comaling first surrendered to the barangay captain and said he is “involved” in the crime, but didn’t say a word why and how he and his suspected cohorts killed the victim.

Police theorized though that Comaling wooed the victim but this led to  an argument.  Scratch and bite wounds were found on the victim’s body, police said.

A murder charge is now being prepared against the suspect.

Meanwhile, here in Cebu City, a man who allegedly made fun of his neighbor’s girlfriend is now fighting for his life after he was shot repeatedly at Ponce Compound, Barangay Carreta dawn yesterday.

Jericho Padin, 23, sustained four gunshot wounds in the body after he was shot by Albert Bacarisas, 22, who got mad of his actuations.

Investigation showed that Padin, Bacarisas, and the latter’s girlfriend were sitting outside their houses at 2 am when Padin started making fun of Bacarisas’ girlfriend.

It was not determined what Padin exactly said but this allegedly irked Bacarisas who pulled a caliber .38 revolver and shot the victim several times.

Residents rushed the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center where he is  now being treated for the four gunshot wounds he sustained on his body. He cannot talk as of the moment.

The suspect fled but was arrested shortly after police responded. —JPM (FREEMAN)
