RDC committee asks utilities to do repair works at nights

CEBU, Philippines -  Do your repair works in the evenings.

This is the call of the Regional Development Council - Infrastructure Development Committee (RDC- IDC) to various utility companies who do their work along the roads,  contributing to traffic congestion.

The committee passed Resolution No. 18 - 2012 recommending that the RDC full council request the concerned government agencies and public utilities to undertake their repair and installation works in major thoroughfares in Metro Cebu at nighttime.

According to RDC-IDC, traffic congestion in major thoroughfares in Metro Cebu is worsening due to repair and installation works carried out by government agencies and public utilities which are being carried out during the day.

“While the work undertaken by these agencies and public utilities is important, there is a way of doing them which would not create traffic jams and that is by undertaking them at nighttime when the traffic is light,” read the resolution passed by the committee.

Committee members cited studies proving the negative effects of traffic congestion, including wasting the time of motorists and passengers. The delays would result in their late arrival for employment, meetings or school which would in turn result in lost business, disciplinary action or other personal losses.

Other concerns they cited is the blocked traffic flow that may interfere with the passage of emergency vehicles, among many others.  (FREEMAN)
