CEBU, Philippines - The couple who surrendered to Cebu authorities for their alleged involvement in a multimillion scam in Quezon City is now in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
Chief Insp. George Ylanan, who heads Regional Special Operations Group 7, said couple Danilo and Janet Gujilde, both 47, was escorted back to Maasin City last Tuesday night via passenger vessel.
The couple, who surrendered to the police in Cebu last December 6, is now imprisoned in Maasin City where they are facing estafa charges, Ylanan said.
“Hands off na mi sa maong kaso. Igo ra mi nag-arrest niya by virtue of a warrant of arrest so tua na sila sa Maasin, (We are already off the case. We just arrested them by virtue of a warrant and now they are in Maasin.)” Ylanan said.
Janet, a native of Badian, Cebu, was the respondent of the estafa case while both she and her husband, a native of Maasin City, are respondents of a large scale estafa case in Quezon City where they allegedly duped P400 million from their victims.
Ylanan said that after reading the news yesterday, a number of people who claimed to have been victimized by the couple called up the police in Quezon City and inquired about the suspects.
The couple was accused of duping P400 million from their victims, who were mostly teachers, in Fairview, Quezon City.
The suspects would allegedly convince their clients to invest on their school supply business with the promise of gaining interest, but the victims were not able to get their money back.
The couple temporarily stayed in Barangay Lahug and surrendered to the police after receiving death threats from their victims. They were then arrested. — (FREEMAN)
