Birthday Party food downs 67 in Iloilo

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Sixty-seven guests of a birthday party here were rushed to the hospital after showing signs of food poisoning, authorities said.

The victims attended a birthday party of a neighbor last Friday in Barangay Jalandoni Wilson in the city proper and after partaking of the food, suffered stomach pain, dizziness and vomiting.

They were rushed to the Western Visayas Medical Center. An inquiry was still ongoing as to what caused the food poisoning. But the victims pointed to hotdogs served in the party as the possible culprit.

Meanwhile, Dr. Urminico Baronda of the Iloilo City Health Office warned the public to be wary of the food they buy during the holidays.

Baronda advised buyers to check the expiry date and be careful in how they handle food. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
