UV sending aid to Compostela Valley

CEBU, Philippines - Christmas is the time of giving. It is better to give than to receive.

The University of the Visayas, the university with a heart, administration will be giving relief goods such as water, rice and noodles to the victims of Typhoon Pablo in Compostela Valley.

UV Vice Chairman Jose "Dodong" R. Gullas said that the university has decided that instead of giving Christmas gifts to its faculty and staff at the UV Main Campus, Gullas Medical Center, which includes the College of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and hospital staff, UV satellite schools in Toledo, Minglanilla, Pardo, Mandaue, Compostela and Danao, the university will help those who lost their homes and their loved ones due to Typhoon Pablo.

"We in Cebu are very fortunate. I remember clearly that Pagasa said Pablo was going to hit Cebu. But we were spared, thanks to our protectors, the Sto. Nino, Our Lady of Guadalupe and San Pedro Calungsod. We decided to share our blessings to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Christmas is a season of giving. It is better to give than to receive," Gullas said, adding that everyone should continue to pray for the victims of the typhoon.

The university, together with the faculty and non-teaching personnel, will however, still celebrate the Christmas season in a humble way on December 20 at 4pm.

UV officials have already coordinated with government agencies for the university's donation to Compostela Valley. (FREEMAN)
