Dengue cases in Cebu City hit 3T
CEBU, Philippines - Dengue cases in Cebu City from January to November 30 this year have already reached 3,632 with 12 casualties, more than double the 1,642 for the same period last year.
City Epidemiology Surveillance and Statistics Unit assistant head Durinda Macasocol said there were also 12 dengue-related casualties in 2011.
Statistics this year show that four out of every 1,000 persons in Cebu City were affected by dengue. Only those brought to hospitals are included in the statistics.
Macasocol said the school-age group was the most affected by the dengue virus spread by mosquito aedes aegypti.
Barangay Guadalupe, the biggest barangay in Cebu City, remains on the top of the list with the most number of dengue cases at 297.
Guadalupe is followed by Lahug, 204; Labangon, 186; Kamputhaw, 171; Inayawan, 144; Bacayan, 135; Tisa, 121; Basak-San Nicolas, 111; Mabolo; 111 and Sambag 1, 96.
Records show that in 2007, there were 53 casualties of dengue, but it went down to 51 in 2008, then continued to go down to 41 in 2009 and 22 in 2010.
Macasocol said there were only 18 casualties of dengue last year. (FREEMAN)
