“Carbon Pasko Na” to be launched today

Rene U. Borromeo - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The vendors at the Carbon Public Market have agreed to join hands in cleaning up the market this morning to formally launch its Christmas program dubbed as “Carbon Pasko Na”.

Cebu City market administrator Raquel Arce said that the vendors will beautify the market to encourage the public to patronize their goods. Under the theme “Ang Bag-ong Carbon Nagkahiusa sa Kasadya ug Kalamboan” vendors will display Christmas decors in their respective stalls even if there is no more contest.

Arce said that unlike last year where there were prizes at stake, vendors are doing it this year for the sake of unity.

Antonio Piloto, chairman of the Cebu Market Vendors Cooperative, assured the market-goers that the prices of products sold in Carbon market are much cheaper compared to those sold in malls and supermarkets.

The City Hall will install public weighing scale in the different markets to encourage the public to patronize the public markets. The public weighing scales will give the market-goers the opportunity to verify if the weighing scales of the vendors are accurate.

Arce admitted that there are still unscrupulous vendors in the public markets who are cheating their customers.

“Dunay mga tindera nga inigtimbang nila sa ilang baligya kon dunay mopalit ilang gunitan ang timbangan kon dili magbantay ang mopalit aron mobug-at,” Arce told reporters.

Arce, however, said that legitimate stall holders are not doing it because they are afraid of the sanctions. The sanctions include revocation of the lease contract.

She said only those ambulant vendors like the ones selling fish are doing the illegal activities because they do not have contracts with the city government.– (FREEMAN)
