Man sets parents’ house on fire

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old man set his parents’ house on fire in Barangay Mabuli, Tabogon Monday afternoon after he was refused of the financial assistance he was asking for because his live-in partner is scheduled to give birth next month.

Tony Araneta Claves was arrested by the police few hours after the incident.

Claves allegedly went to his parents, Ceriaco and Lolita, at 2:15 p.m. last Monday to ask for money. The couple allegedly failed to give which irked the suspect.

The suspect went wild and started throwing the kitchen utensils of his parents outside the house. Instead of confronting the suspect, the couple decided to leave their son alone in the house.

However, the couple was surprised to see that their nipa hut was already on fire. The suspect fled but was arrested in his live-in partner’s house in Barangay Mangase.

The police however was forced to release him after his parents refused to file charges. —FPL (FREEMAN)
