CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Beautiful Movement chairman Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung said that the beautification project along Osmeña Boulevard is now 98 percent complete and promised that it will be completed before the San Pedro Calungsod National Thanksgiving Day in Cebu on November 30, 2012.

“The beautification project is now 98 percent complete. I am confident it will be finished before Calungsod’s thanksgiving mass,” said Yeung, who along with nine other Cebuanas, was conferred the title Dame of the Order of St. Sylvester, on May 25, 2011, for charity work and service to the church.

The foundation is non-political and non-profit. The Cebu City government has no counterpart on this multi-million restoration project so as to unburden the city government from spending.

The foundation earlier conducted a Masquerade Ball that earned at least P10million, which was used for the beautification project.

Yeung and her team was tasked to raise millions of pesos for the beautification project which includes lighting the trees, installing lampposts and concreting the sidewalks from Sanciangko St. down to Osmeña Boulevard with bricks and including the center island.

Yeung and her team of equally enthusiastic ladies of Cebu coming from the different sectors targeted to finish the area last December but was delayed.

Yeung added that beautifying the entire stretch from Fuente Osmeña to Sanciangko St. needs to be done in time for Calungsod’s thanksgiving mass on November 30, where there will be a huge celebration in Cebu.

“The world will have an eye on Cebu during this event. The celebration will be bigger than Sinulog,” Yeung said.— /MIT (FREEMAN)
