DPS to implement barangay clustering
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Service will soon implement the Barangay Garbage Clustering Management in order to manage waste collection within the barangays.
Department of Public Service (DPS) head Guinisio Gauliza said they initially created five clusters composed of urban barangays.
Cluster 1 is headed by Punta Princesa Barangay Captain Jose Navarro and the members are barangays Labangon and Tisa.
Cluster 2 head is Santa Cruz Barangay Captain Jerome Lim with barangays Cogon-Ramos and San Antonio as members.
Cluster 3 is headed by Zapatera Barangay Captain Jingoy Reformina and the members include barangays Lorega-San Miguel, T. Padilla and Day-as.
Cluster 4 includes barangays San Roque, Tejero, T. Padilla and Pari-an with Tinago Barangay Captain Domingo Lopez as the head.
Barangays Banilad, Luz, Carreta, Mabolo, Kasambagan and Hipodromo belong to cluster 5 headed by Apas Barangay Captain Ramil Ayuman
Gualiza said the clustering management aims to establish unity, cooperation and volunteerism among clustered barangays in the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Act.
“We are clustered regardless of political affiliations. What matters is, we are able to solve our garbage management problem,” Reformina said.
Gualiza said in the clustered system, the head makes sure that all member barangays will help in ensuring that garbage are collected regardless of boundaries.
The DPS will only come in if the problem in uncollected garbage could not be solved within the cluster, especially when their garbage trucks break down.
In case of calamity, all members must also help each other in the clearing operations.
Gualiza said the city government will continue to take care of the gasoline allocation for the garbage trucks. — (FREEMAN)
