CCPO director claims success

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Despite Joavan Fernandez’s latest brush with the law, Cebu City Police Office director Melvin Ramon Buenafe claimed success in his being a “mentor” and “big brother” to him.

Buenafe said that while Fernandez figured in another infraction recently, the adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez did not anymore do any “peculiar activity” in Cebu City.

“After tayo nag-mentoring sa kanya, wala na siya nagpabuyag diri,” Buenafe said.

He however said that it was unfortunate that Fernandez was figured in another incident in Talisay City last Sunday.

But the police official said he could not do anything about it since it is no longer under his jurisdiction. Buenafe suggested to the Talisay City police to also mentor and be a big brother to Fernandez.

He said that as much as he would want to continue mentoring Fernandez he could not intrude in the territorial jurisdiction of Talisay police.

The CCPO director also assured that he will support the Talisay police in arresting Fernandez should there be a warrant of arrest.

Joavan was recently accused of shooting at a gasoline station in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City. He was given until the end of the week to surrender before another case for malicious mischief, grave threats and illegal possession of firearm will be filed against him.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador has already created two teams to hunt down Fernandez.  (FREEMAN)
