22-year-old shot dead in Carcar
CEBU, Philippines - A 22-year-old man was shot dead in Barangay Valencia, Carcar City shortly past midnight yesterday.
The incident happened just after the victim, Jay Tampan, brought his two female friends to Barangay Valencia. They watched a mini concert in Barangay Poblacion prior to the incident.
Tampan succumbed to two gunshot wounds to his head and back. He was rushed to the Carcar Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police suspect jealousy to be one of the possible motives in the shooting because one of Tampan’s companions, reportedly his textmate, is already engaged to her boyfriend who is working abroad. The boyfriend is reportedly returning to the Philippines this month to prepare for the wedding.
Insp. Andres Alpas, deputy chief of the Carcar City Police Station, said Tampan was several meters away from where he brought Cavan and the 16-year-old companion when the bursts of gunfire were heard.
When Cavan and the girl checked, they saw Tampan already slumped to the ground.
“Posible giatangan ni unya pagpauli na gipusil…so far way lain jealousy pa gyud,” Alpas said.
Police have invited seven people for questioning in line with the ongoing investigation.
