Cebu vets save puppy's hacked snout

CEBU, Philippines - As thousands of people wait for updates on the surgery of “Kabang”, the hero dog from Zamboanga who lost her upper snout while saving two children, Cebuanos are also taking part in aid and prayers to save a dog in Cebu whose snout was hacked.

According to a TV report, Kenneth, a puppy whose snout was hacked but still attached to his face, was found by a tricycle driver in Cebu City.

Roberto Solon said he felt bad for the dog and brought it home. Solon said his nephew took a picture of the dog and posted it in Facebook which got the attention of Cebu South Dog Club.

The dog was brought to the Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital at GSP Building in Banilad, Cebu City where Kenneth's condition was assessed and whether a surgery was possible. After days of tests, an operation was scheduled for Kenneth.

For the past few days, the CSDCi and Island Rescue Organization have been working on ways to raise funds for the operation of Kenneth.

CSDCi and IRO made a Facebook page with photos of Kenneth, asking for the public's support to raise funds for his operation. Fortunately, the campaign to help Kenneth was answered by hundreds of people through overwhelming cash assistance and other means to help save the dog.

After having raised a substantial amount and with pre-surgery tests looking good, Kenneth was operated on last Monday at around 6 p.m.

Yesterday, Guilliam Roque, CSDCi president and Nena Hernandez, IRO President, posted in their Facebook page a photo of Kenneth after a “successful reconstruction surgical operation.” They stated that Kenneth ate well after the surgery which lasted for four hours and is now recovering.

According to CSDCi's Facebook page, Kenneth will go to IRO's Danao Center where he can heal in his own room, and with IRO volunteer Doc Keith (an American DVM) who will do post-surgical care.

Also, CSDCi have earlier stated that after the operation, they will be pushing for an investigation to find out who was responsible for hacking Kenneth.

Recently, a dog from Zamboanga named Kabang lost her snout and upper jaw after she jumped in front of a motorcycle to save two kids who were about to be hit. The hero dog's story got the attention of many which helped in raising funds as well to have the dog operated in the United States.

As of recent update, Kabang is now in the US and is being prepped for her operation.
