MCWD teams up with AWC for Guadalupe's water supply

- AJ de la Torre - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - In order to maintain the good supply of water in the city, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District have been continuously working on efforts to deliver water in all barangays including forging partnerships that would help them on this endeavor.

Recently, MCWD, with its partner, the Abejo Waters Corp. (AWC), commissioned the bulk water supply to the Guadalajara injection point.

With this, residents of Barangay Guadalupe can now avail of affordable and safe water from MCWD by applying for new water connections.

According to MCWD, residents will have to attend free orientation seminars every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the MCWD Main Building, Lapu-Lapu corner Magallanes streets, Cebu City.

Every day, the Guadalajara supply produces 1,200 cubic meters and can serve at least 900 new customers, said Distribution Division Manager Edgar Ortega.

MCWD earlier entered into an agreement with AWC for a bulk water supply of 4,500 cubic meters a day which will be distributed to three injection points, namely; Guadalajara, Quijada St. and Kabajar St.

AWC President Borgy Abejo said the supply for the two injection points are expected to be commissioned before the year ends.

AWC will provide water to MCWD at a rate of P14.98 per cubic meter inclusive of all taxes and if Abejo fails to deliver the expected volume, they will be penalized by MCWD by 50 percent of the selling price per cubic meter.

Abejo is also expected to supply MCWD with potable water that conforms to the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water. If Abejo fails to meet the water standards, MCWD has the right to refuse the contracted volume of water. —/MIT (FREEMAN)
