Three men kill selves by hanging
CEBU, Philippines - Three men, one of them a detainee at a police station, committed suicide by hanging themselves in different towns in Cebu recently.
Around 5 a.m. last Friday, policemen found Cilfredo Pabroa, 28, hanging inside his detention cell in the Tudela Police Station.
Pabroa, a robbery suspect, allegedly got the rope he used in hanging from his visitors.
The detainee was allegedly feeling depressed lately after learning that his live-in-partner had left him for another man, said PO3 Nerio Gonzales of the Tudela Police Station.
A suicide note written on a mosquito coil box and a piece of paper was found next to the body.
“I love you Mama May-may. Salamat nalang sa imong gugma nako. Gibaliwala ra nimo akong gugma nimo,” part of the letter read.
He also asked forgiveness for ending his life and requested his former girlfriend to have his wake at his house.
Pabroa’s fellow inmates did not notice him setting up his noose as they were sound asleep, police said.
After discovering the body, police took him to the Ricardo Maningo Memorial Hospital in San Francisco town.
Gonzales said he consoled Pabroa prior to the incident, noticing he was always staring at nothing and would not eat.
The detainee would also frequently bang his head against the wall when he and his live-in-partner would fight.
In San Francisco town, 41-year-old Roel Barcenas was also found hanging dead in his house in Barangay Montealegre.
Barcenas was discovered past 10 a.m. by his wife, who then rushed him to the nearby hospital. He did not make it there alive.
The wife told the police that her husband grew despondent after suffering from a nervous breakdown. Police found no signs of foul play.
In Barangay Bolocboloc, Barili town, a farmer also hung himself last Wednesday.
Saturnino Pasujulan, 33, reportedly ended his own life after his live-in-partner left him following a fight.
Pasujulan’s friends and relatives came looking for him last Wednesday after he failed to feed his carabao, only to find him hanging from a madre de cacao tree a few meters away from his house.
He was still rushed to the hospital but it was already too late.
Police said that the victim, who had been living with his father after his live-in-partner left him, was a secretive person. (FREEMAN)
