CEBU, Philippines - Two died while another is in critical condition after separate shooting incidents in the town of Dalaguete and Danao City.

A lead man of the CPL Aparri Mining Services was shot dead by an unidentified man while sleeping on a wooden bench at the compressor area of the company in Barangay Mantalongon shortly before midnight last Wednesday.

Inoserio Ocares, 40, of Sitio Kanlawilao, Barangay Dumalan, succumbed to a gunshot wound to his body which caused his immediate death.

Prior to the incident, Ocares was on duty at the CPL Aparri Mining Services, a sister company of the Ibalong Coal Mining Corporation.

Ocares, who was assigned at the compressor area, was alone at that time.

Victor Vejante, the time keeper, allegedly heard a single burst of gunfire from a distance, prompting him to go to the area but he failed to notice the victim.

Vejante reportedly got worried when Ocares failed to log out at midnight. This prompted Vejante to call Nestor Marcelino and verify if Ocares is at the compressor area.

Marcelino found Ocares lying in the area and tried to wake him up but was surprised when he found out that Ocares was no longer moving and had a gunshot wound.

The body was taken to St. William Funeral Homes for autopsy.

In another incident, a man is in critical condition after he was shot by the husband of his lover shortly before midday yesterday along the National Highway of Beatrice D. Durano St., Barangay Poblacion, Danao City.

Demosthenes Romagos , 56, of Barangay Poblacion, sustained five gunshot wounds in different parts of his body after he was shot by Antonio Natividad, of Barangay Tuburan Sur using a caliber .22 revolver.

Romagos was initially taken to the Danao Provincial Hospital before he was rushed to a private hospital in Cebu City.

Antonio eluded the arrest when the Danao City police arrived.

SPO1 Bryan Batiquin, homicide investigator, said Antonio was tailing the motorcycle of Romagos boarded by Antonio’s wife and a child of Romagos. They were heading towards Barangay Poblacion from Barangay Taytay.

Antonio reportedly swerved closer to Romagos’ motorcycle and repeatedly shot the latter causing them to slump on the road.

Romagos sustained three gunshot wounds in his left arm and two gunshot wounds to the back of his body.

After firing five times, Antonio tried to reload his .22 revolver but his wife wrestled with him, dropped the pin of the revolver and fled on foot.

Batiquin said Antonio had been tailing his wife to verify their neighbors’ allegations that his wife was having an illicit affair.

“Dugay na ni nagbinuang pero dili ko sure kung kanus-a gyud. (She has long been fooling around but I’m not sure exactly when it started), ” Batiquin said in a phone interview.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man committed suicide inside their house in Barangay Guinakot, Da-nao City, early yesterday morning.

Nicholas Roble was declared dead on arrival at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. He succumbed to a gunshot wound to his head.

Roble reportedly woke up around 5:00a.m. and asked for a piece of bread because he was hungry but a few minutes later, his mother heard a loud burst of gunfire coming from the living room of the house.

The mother rushed to the scene and found her son lying in a pool of blood.

Police recovered a .38 revolver with three bullets and two empty shells in the cylinder.

PO2 Marlon Remollo, homicide investigator, said the family could not yet determine the reason why Roble committed suicide.

His family described him as a silent person and did not have many friends.

“Naa ra gyud kuno to sulod sa balay unya mag-sige og hinuktok pila ka adlaw sa wa pa maghikog. (He just stayed in his room, lost in thought, a few days before he committed suicide),” Remollo said.

The family was advised to subject the body to an autopsy to determine the real cause of death. —MIT (FREEMAN)
