Burglars take P.4M in jewels

CEBU, Philippines - More than P400,000 worth of jewelry belonging to two people were stolen by burglars who broke into the house of an Overseas Filipino Worker last Monday evening in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City.

One of the victims, identified as Clif Taneo, 39, a resident of the said place, is supposed to fly to Canada this Sept. 22.

SPO4 Edgardo Pasaylo of the Basak Police station said the other victim Herasalia Malesido, 60, of Barangay Sambag, Cebu City, entrusted her jewelry to Taneo asking him to take them to her son who is a colleague of Taneo also working in Canada.

It was learned that the jewelry of Malesido had been pawned and was just recently redeemed.

Malesido’s jewelry consisted of three necklaces, one bracelet, seven Japanese gold rings and a wrist watch all worth P203,000.

The jewelry owned by Taneo consisted of a Bangkok bracelet and a Chinese gold necklace both worth P200,000.

Taneo and other members of his family were out of their house when the burglary took place.

When Taneo arrived he noticed that the sliding window of his room was already destroyed and they later found the jewelry was missing.

Police are now looking for the burglars. — (FREEMAN)
