Another landslide in Talisay City

- Garry B. Lao - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Another landslide occurred in one of the mountain barangays of Talisay City Wednesday dawn due to heavy rains.

Campo 4 Barangay Captain Jun Cabingatan said no one was hurt but the landslide covered the road that connects Toledo City and Talisay City giving problems to residents and motorists.

It took about ten hours to clear the road.

Last Wednesday’s landslide happened just a few meters away from where another landslide occurred last Monday that also partially covered the road and forced 65 residents to evacuate to safer grounds.

Talisay City councilor Danny Caballero who visited the landslide site noticed that a cliff in Barangay Campo 4 has cracks and is about to give way.

Caballero also instructed QM Builders Construction Inc., the contractor undertaking the road widening project, to immediately clear the area of boulders to prevent accident.

Precautionary signage must also be installed for motorists and residents.

Barangay Campo 4 councilor Marvin Latorre, who also works for QM Builders Inc, said that they are working double time to clear the area affected by the landslide.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) revealed that Campo 4 and other mountain barangays in Talisay City are found to be susceptible to landslides based on the 2009 geohazard survey in the area. — (FREEMAN)
