2 dead, 2 injured in shooting incidents
CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed while two others were injured when they were shot at by motorcycle-riding men in three separate incidents in Minglanilla, Lapu-Lapu City and Consolacion yesterday.
In Minglanilla, a man was found dead outside a cockfight arena in Barangay Calajo-an around 1:35 am. The victim was wearing a light blue Jersey shirt, a pair of shorts, and a pair of white rubber shoes. He was estimated to be around 30 to 40 years old.
Police failed to identify the victim who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. He was taken to the Minglanilla District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Police recovered two knives, three empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol and one slug of the firearm.
Before authorities found the victim, residents nearby reportedly heard successive bursts of gunfire around 1:20 a.m. A resident of the area reportedly saw two unidentified men hurriedly fled on board a Krypton motorcycle.
Three hours later, a man who was with his friends was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding-men in Punta Rizal St., Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City.
Nonilon Presbitero, 19, a resident of the barangay, succumbed to a gunshot wound on his face. He was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
SPO1 Manolito Abellanosa of the Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu Police, said Presbitero was with his friends and some Guest Relations Officers (GROs) outside the Leirs videoke bar when the suspects stopped the motorcycle right in front of them.
Without a word, the man riding in pillion then shot Presbitero.
Policemen of Police Station 3 immediately conducted a follow up operation at the first Mandaue-Mactan Bridge in Barangay Pajo where the suspects were reportedly seen, but the operation proved futile.
Meanwhile, a father and his son landed in the hospital after they were shot by motorcycle-riding men while tending to their stall at the public market in Barangay Cansaga, Consolacion last Saturday night. The two were selling second hand clothes.
The two were identified as Benjamin and Lope Demecillo, ages 74 and 35.
PO1 Arden Balanay told Banat News that it was Lope who was tending to the stall at that time when two unidentified men on board a motorcycle arrived and aimed a gun at him. Lope tried to knock the firearm away and was hit on his hand and waist. His father, Benjamin, who rushed to the scene was also shot and was hit on his high. The suspects immediately fled.
The father and son are now confined in a hospital in Cebu City. (FREEMAN)
