CH urged: Get relocation for 57 families in Tejero
CEBU, Philippines - Officials of Barangay Tejero want the Cebu City Government to secure a relocation for some 57 families before evicting them from their homes to pave way for a road restoration project.
Tejero Captain Jessielou Cadungog in his letter to Mayor Michael Rama raised the concern after the residents received a final notice from the mayor.
There are 57 families to be affected by the road restoration that seeks to create a road link from Carreta to U. Alviola Street in Tejero.
The project was an upshot of the fire that hit Carreta over a year ago. A portion of the road restoration project has been completed in Carreta but the portion in barangay Tejero was suspended following the protest from the affected residents.
Rama wants to restore the road to increase the accessibility in the area where several fire incidents had occurred.
Barangay officials oppose the implementation of the road restoration until there are available relocation sites for the 57 families.
Cadungog in his letter to the mayor also asked the city government to provide the barangay council a copy of the road plan.
He also wants the city to certify first that it has a budget to complete the project including the budget to pay the owners of private properties that will be affected, before evicting the families. (FREEMAN)
