CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed while two others, one of them a minor, were wounded after they were shot by a man disguised as a courier last Saturday evening in Barangay Victoria, San Remigio town.

Teodoro Remando, 53, and Rolando Dacayana, 49, both fishermen and residents of the area were declared dead on arrival at the Bogo Provincial Hospital where they were rushed.

Teodoro succumbed to three gunshot wounds to the back while Dacayana succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head.

Teodoro Remando Jr., 17, grandson of the older Remando, and Celadel Marianito, 32, the live-in partner of Dacayana were wounded.

The minor sustained gunshot wounds to the right side of his face, neck, and upper right arm. Marianito was injured in her right knee.

Both were taken to the same hospital but later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

The attending doctor said they were out of danger yesterday afternoon.

Before the incident, the older Teodoro was sleeping in his room upstairs with his wife Memoracion Remando, 68, while his grandson, Dacayana and Marianito were watching television downstairs.

It was around 8 p.m. when the assailant came on motorcycle and asked for Teodoro saying he had a package for him. The assailant was wearing a full-face helmet and mask.

Marianito and Dacayana then called Teodoro who went downstairs.

The assailant then shot at them before getting back on his motorcycle and fleeing. He was last seen headed south.

Inspector Anecito Manloloyo, San Remigio chief, said they tried to conduct a follow-up operation but nobody was able to identify the assailant.

Police recovered five empty .45 cal. shells and two slugs from the crime scene.

Manloloyo told The FREEMAN they have yet to conduct a background checking on the victims to determine a possible motive behind the crime.

New post

Manloloyo said that Barangay Victoria is about 19 kilometers away from Barangay Poblacion where the police station was located.

Manloloyo said he will ask Mayor Jay Olivar to put up a sub-station at the said place for security reasons.

“Ingon ani dugay mi ka-responde kay tungod sa kalayo mas maayo ug naay laing station bisan gamay lang,” Manloloyo said in a phone interview. —/BRP (FREEMAN)
