Cop accused of pointing gun at live-in partner

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A rookie policeman was accused of pointing a gun at his live-in partner in Barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City.

Former Citom enforcer Rosie Caburnay, 49, yesterday filed a complaint at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 against PO1 Ronald Tampipi, 31.

Caburnay said her live-in partner pointed his gun at her on August 6 after she confronted the latter for treating her strangely. Caburnay claimed that she tried to ask Tampipi why the latter is no longer talking to her.

Caburnay said the last text message she got from Tampipi was in June 10 yet. In the text message, Tampipi supposedly told her that he loves her. Since then, Tampipi, who was recently recruited in the PNP, allegedly did not anymore communicate to her.

“Ako na lang gisabot na basin di pa g’yud sila pwede maggamit og cellphone ( I tried to understand, thinking that he might not have been allowed to use his cellphone),” Caburnay said.

On August 1, Caburnay said she learned from a friend that Tampipi was assigned at the Mactan Police Station in Lapu-lapu City. She immediately went to the police station and saw Tampipi. The meeting was their first since Tampipi was sent to Balamban for his six months training last February.

According to Caburnay, she was informed that Tampipi was given a break after his training in Balamban before he was assigned in Lapu-Lapu but the latter did not visit her even once.

Tampipi allegedly got irked when she visited him at the police station. Caburnay, a widow and a mother of three, said that she and Tampipi have been living together in Tangke, Talisay for three years already.

But after the training, Tampipi already lives with his aunt in Looc, Lapu-lapu City. Caburnay said she is determined to pursue her complaint against her erstwhile partner. Chief Insp. Fermin Armendares, CIDG 7 team leader, said that Tampipi can face a case for grave misconduct. Calls to Tampipi yesterday were left unanswered as well as that of his commander.   - THE FREEMAN
