Dalaguete, Oslob vie for child-friendly LGU
CEBU, Philippines - The Municipalities of Dalaguete and Oslob will be representing Cebu Province in the regional level search for the most child-friendly municipality.
The Municipality of Pilar in Camotes was no longer included in the regional search as it will automatically compete in the national level being a hall of famer and part of the shortlist for the national competition.
At least 12 Local Government Units competed for the award in the provincial level and Dalaguete topped in the first to third class bracket. Oslob on the other hand bested the other municipalities in the fourth to sixth classes.
Dalaguete and Oslob competed against Alcoy, Ronda, Balamban, Barili, Tabuelan, Catmon, Compostela, Liloan and Consolacion. Talisay City automatically secured the title for the component city category as the other cities did not vie for the title.
Provincial validators suggested to Pilar, which will compete in the national level, to have a height board, which they lack for the health validation. The Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children (PCWC) also offered to help in training them for good packaging of documents.
The PCWC yesterday shared their accomplishment for the first half of the year to Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.
PCWC reported that it has sessions at the Child Minding Center where they served 29 children. The said center is presently utilized as holding area and intake room for abused children or women before and after court hearings.
Last month, they conducted validation visits of the LGUs which participated in the Search for the Most Child-Friendly City/Municipality.
They also have 22 court cases involving trafficked children, victims of child pornography, psych or emotional abused, rape, child abuse, physical abuse and child custody.
They also provided learning materials for children at the day care centers in the 51 municipalities and cities of the province.
Capability building trainings for the 1, 259 Day Care workers to 47 municipalities except for Daanbantayan, Poro, San Francisco and Tudela were also conducted by PCWC. - THE FREEMAN
