Pothole-filled UN Avenue repaired

- Flor Z. Perolina - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - 7 has started to go on full blast the road rehabilitation project at the UN Avenue in barangay Umapad in Mandaue City.

The UN Avenue is the road leading to the foot of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge which the DPWH has now started to rehabilitate after several traffic accidents had occurred in the area due to potholes.

It was observed that traffic was normal when the agency started its work last Monday and Tuesday due to the holidays.

But yesterday, heavy traffic congestion was experienced by motorists coming from Lapu-Lapu City on their way to Mandaue City since only one lane was opened for the motorists.

One lane was closed at the UN Avenue, starting from the foot of the bridge up to Plaridel Street.

Two lanes from the corner of Plaridel St. and UN Avenue going to Lapu-Lapu city are still open to motorists.

So far, four traffic enforcers from the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) and another four personnel from PB Obial Construction, the contractor of the said road repair, are the ones manning the traffic in the area.

It was also learned from Lopercio Ponsica, the foreman of the said project, that the road rehabilitation is expected to be completed in February next year but they are just hoping that they won’t encounter any weather problems like heavy rains and strong winds so that they could do their work double time.

He hopes to complete the almost one kilometer road repair project by November or December this year.

The road rehabilitation project costs P28,474,598.     - THE FREEMAN
