Woman's body found two weeks after suicide
CEBU, Philippines - The body of a 50-year-old woman who allegedly hung herself was found in the stock room of her house last Monday 5 p.m. in Barangay Luyang, Carmen.
The body of Marissa Ott with found a nylon rope looped around her neck attached to the ceiling of the stock room. She was found by her brother, Melvin Butlig, 44, of Barangay Corazon, Catmon, who paid her a visit that day.
Butlig reportedly kept calling Ott from outside the house but when nobody answered he was forced to break down the door and search for his sister.
He reached the stock room, found her body hanging, then went to look for police assistance.
Ott was left by her German husband in 1986, they did not have any children.
According to Butlig, SPO2 Simplicio Gibo said Ott was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. Her family believes this caused her depression and prompted her to commit suicide.
SPO2 Simplicio Gibo, of the Carmen Police Station, said the body had been hanging from the ceiling for about two weeks now.
“Decomposing stage na di na gani kaayo ingon baho pareha anang bag-o pa,” Gibo said in a phone interview.
Nobody noticed the foul smell because the stock room did not have any ventilation and the house was facing the sea.
Butlig took the body to a funeral parlor in Catmon town for proper disposition. —(FREEMAN)
