Garcias to support Garcias
CEBU, Philippines - The family of former Cebu City mayor Alvin Garcia has assured their support to their cousin, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, in her bid for the Senate in 2013.
The assurance was made amidst frequent attacks and criticisms by some columnists of the family-owned publication.
“You have to understand the role of the media,” said Alvin at the weekly Tapok-Tapok sa Sugbo Media Forum at NS Hotel.
Alvin recalled how he was lambasted by some columnists of their publication when he was mayor of Cebu City.
“You can’t use the newspaper of good standing for political ambition. Kung gigamit pa sa ako ambition sa una, tingale patay na ni karon, (If I used this for my ambition before, it would be dead now.)” he said.
On the same forum, his son, Raymond, also emphasized that the Garcia family is united.
Raymond said that they will support Gwendolyn for the Senate because she is a Cebuano.
“May Sugbuanon unta diha (Senate) nipakita ba na diri? Di man gani na kahibawo mo-binisaya, (There’s a Cebuano there but is he visible here? He doesn’t even know how to speak Bisaya.)” Raymond said.
Alvin and Raymond both said that even if they are not registered voters of the Province of Cebu, they will still give their all out support to third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia’s bid for governor.
“We are united, we will support Gwen and PJ all the way,” Raymond said.
Being the new president of Kugi Uswag Sugbo (Kusug) Party, Raymond also said that Gwen will be their number one in senatorial slate the party is supporting next year. — (FREEMAN)
