CEBU, Philippines - For one week now, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has been preparing for the incoming Annual General Inspection - Operation Readiness Security Inspection Test and Evaluation (AGI-ORSITE).
“CCPO is always striving to be the best police office and to be recognized not only in the Philippines but even in Asia because there are many foreigners here,” said Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, the headquarters’ director.
For two hours starting July 31 and every Tuesday and Thursday until the national contest on September, the CCPO has been starting its practice, said Supt. Arnel Banzon, Deputy City Director for Administration.
Banzon, who led the first day of the preparation, said CCPO men were first oriented of their roles during the inspection where they will demonstrate different scenarios to evaluate their knowledge and skills.
“Magpractise na ta as early as now para maayo ang atong performance inig actual na nga AGI-ORSITE,” Banzon said, adding that they will also start preparing the documents or records needed by inspectors.
The scenarios, Banzon said, will include hostage negotiations, crowd dispersal management, arrest and handcuffing techniques, earthquake drill, fire drill, bomb disposal, and counter-terrorism, among others.
“But bisan pa wala’y AGI-ORSITE, always ta andam because we regularly check the operational readiness of our men,” Banzon further said.
Moreover, Buenafe said CCPO will always try to be the best police office although they have constraints unlike other polices offices that are well supported by their respective local government units.
“That’s why we strive a lot to improve our office because while we improve in terms of operational, we’re being pulled down by physical appearance. It connotes lack of cooperation,” Buenafe said, referring to the old CCPO building which is now renovated.
In 2010, Camp Crame adjudged San Nicolas Police Station, one of the police stations under CCPO, as model urban police station nationwide, a first for the headquarters.
