- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A man died while his live-in partner was injured after they were shot at Barangay Valencia, Carcar City at 8 p.m. last Friday.

Segundo Dayanan, 66, died at the Carcar Emergency Hospital from the wound in his head while 50-year-old Angelina Ibanan was taken to a hospital in Cebu City for her wounds in her left side and left thigh.

The two were on their way home to Barangay Esperanza, Aloguinsan when the ambush took place.

They came from Carcar where they usually do their laundry because the well in their place is not ideal for washing clothes.

Dayanan was driving a Suzuki motorcycle (8873-IQ) when an assailant opened fire at them.

PO2 Rosendo Binondo of Carcar City Police Station said Ibanan managed to get off the motorcycle and sought help from nearby residents.

Binondo said they are eyeing personal grudge as the primary motive behind the attack.

Apart from the laundry, among the things recovered from the crime scene was the victims’ backpack which contained a subpoena from the Carcar City Prosecutor’s Office for an estafa and swindling case. Dayanan was the complainant.

Dayanan, Binondo said, is also a member of an anti-crime organization in Aloguinsan called “Lungsod Batok Salaod”.

Binondo, however, stressed they could not yet conclude that these are the motive behind the attack as they are still investigating it.

The police officer further said that they are still waiting for the victims’ relatives to appear before their office to further shed light on the incident.     - THE FREEMAN
