Boy's face burned with acid
CEBU, Philippines - A 17-year-old boy suffered burns in his face after his neighbor allegedly poured hydrochloric acid on him after mistaking him for a thief early morning yesterday at A. Lopez St., Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.
Raymart Gingoyon is now confined at the Cebu City Medical Center after suffering major burns to his face after his neighbor, Jessie Yu, poured the acid on him.
Yu was arrested by Gingoyon’s relative through citizen’s arrest and taken to the Punta Princesa Police Station.
However, Yu was released from jail 2 p.m. yesterday after both parties amicably settled the incident.
SPO2 Criscente Dacillo of the Punta Princesa Police Station, said Gingoyon claimed he was just hiding beneath the two-story house of Yu when the suspect caught him.
Yu, who had suspicions that Gingoyon was a thief, got a container of hydrochloric acid and poured it on the victim.
Gingoyon’s face was severely burned.
Police said Yu’s allegation Gingoyon as a thief was never proven since nothing was recovered from him.
The police added Gingoyon’s family decided not to file a case and instead asked Yu to shoulder all the hospitalization expenses of the victim.
“Mangayo ra man sila og tambal kay wa silay ikapalit,” Dacillo said. - THE FREEMAN
