Korean nabbed for 'Stealing'

- Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A Korean national was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7 after allegedly stealing P800,000 from his friend Saturday evening at the downtown area in Cebu City.

A team led by Chief Inspector Patrick Freddie Vaño arrested Kyuseok Han, 32, temporarily residing at White Sands Village, Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City.

He was tagged by his friend Sanghwa You, businessman and also of the same address, as the one who carted away his casino chips worth P800,000 last Friday afternoon inside the casino located at the Waterfront Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City.

A criminal complaint for qualified theft was already filed against Han before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.

You allegedly asked his personal assistant, Han, to cash his chips worth P800,000.

You reportedly waited but the suspect never returned.

In his affidavit, You said he made several calls and sent several text messages but all of these were ignored.

Upon inquiring from a security guard, You learned that Han had left and boarded a taxicab.

You informed his Filipina friend, Daisy Moreno, and sought assistance to locate Han but to no avail. Both then decided to inform the CIDG-7 regarding the incident.

Vaño said that the stolen money was no longer recovered after Han lost in Casino. Aside from that, Han also allegedly lost P200,000 which he borrowed from Moreno.

But Vaño said that suspect’s parents in Korea already promised to pay the amount. (FREEMAN)
